NJ Ask

     This years English and reading part of the NJ ASK was really fun and easy. I thought the first section from the first day was sort of hard. It was the Lawn Boy part. The open ended was kind of hard. Otherwise, all multiple choice questions were easy. For the story we had to write, I thought it was easy. On the other hand, for the letter to the library about how they should find the missing book and replace it, that was a hard one. i did not get really good `reasons for supporting the question. We can't even take the other side for this persuasive essay.Wouldn't we have our favorite book with us and not have to go the library to get it? I don't really do good on quote essays so lucky for me, there were none. For the other topics, they were all easy to do and finish. Overall, the English and reading portion was all really fun and easy to do!!!!!!!!

Surprise Essay

     "I'm leaving," Rachel's and Max's mom said loud enough for them to hear. As she left, Rachel happened to look at the calendar. "It's Mother's Day today," Rachel told Max. "We should do something special for mom since we didn't wish her yet."

     "How about throwing a surprise Mother's Day party," Max suggested.

     "No, something that won't cost too much," Rachel answered. "Like baking a cake, yes, that will be something really special."

     "Perfect idea, lets get started right away," Max said eager to do it. They got the computer and searched up an accurate website. "This is going to be the best Mother's Day ever!" Max exclaimed.

     "Yeah, mom is going to love the fact that we baked a cake for her." They continued to work on baking the delicious cake. "We should hurry since there is only thirty minutes till mom comes home," Rachel said tensed.

    "We'll finish just in time, no worries," Max replied. Soon, everything was done except putting the cake in the oven. Finally, Rachel told Max to put the cake in the oven. A long time passed by until  there was a beep, the cake was done! "It's done," Rachel and Max said relived. Suddenly, they heard a car parking. They looked out the window and say their mom parking in the garage. "Go get the cake Max," Rachel said so enthusiastically. They heard the door open when Max dropped the cake. He was so excited and in a hurry that something that  never had been planned occurred. "I'm so sorry," Max said guilty and ashamed.

    "You didn't mean to, it's okay," Rachel replied worried. "This is the worst Mother's Day ever." As soon as their mom saw them and the kitchen, her face was filled with joy, thankfulness and happiness. "We are terribly sorry and we will never do this again," both Max and Rachel said sadly.

     "Thank you so much, I love you guys!" their mom exclaimed. This was something Max and Rachel weren't expecting to hear. "Let me just clean this up and then we can go buy a new cake," their mom said. Later, they came home with a chocolate cake that they all loved. It actually did turn out to be the best Mother's Day ever!

     Nothing in the world will ever be impossible, just keep on trying and one day it'll happen. According to Napoleon Bonaparte,"Impossible is a word only to be found in the dictionary of fools." Everybody thinks if they don't achieve their goal the first time, they will never reach their goal. This is why most people give up their first time trying. If we just wouldn't give up, maybe our goal would actually succeed. Only fools follow and believe in the word impossible.

     Most of the time, people give up in one try but this is not good, especially fools. As a kid, I have experienced this challenge. When I was learning how to ride my bike, I kept repeating the same words over and over, impossible. Now I know that at that time, I was a fool but now I'm wise since I know nothing is impossible. Just because I kept falling down and losing balance, I said it was impossible. My dad said nothing was impossible, so keep moving on and trying harder each time you fail. I listened to him and soon, I was perfect at riding my bike by myself. Then, I realized that the statement nothing is impossible is correct and true. If I would have just gave up and not listen to my father, I would have never learned how to ride a bike. The choice of giving up and agreeing that some things are impossible should not an acceptable option.

     Martin Luther King was one of our greatest leaders since he never gave up. Martin Luther King did anything he wanted to make everybody equal and everyone friends. He failed this goal many, many times but he still never gave up. He reached the point where he succeed his goal, otherwise, he never stopped dreaming.He had faith and trust in himself and he knew he would succeed. Finally, he got everyone to agree with him and the world became united, thanks to Martin Luther King. If it weren't for him, the world wouldn't be united as it is. If it weren't for Martin Luther King, we would be all having a horrible life. Only because he never followed the words impossible or ever give up.When following these steps, anything is possible.

     In the real world, we must all face challenges and its our job to complete the goal. To do this, everyone must pay attention to pros not cons. Dreams will never remain dreams because they can come into reality, if you try hard and not give up. It is evident that anything in the world, anything and everything is possible and will come real, the only work needed is to never give up.

Random Searches

     In most schools, there are students with weapons and drugs. According to Anthony Burgess, "To be left alone is the most precious thing one can ask of the modern world." Privacy is really significant to people. Also, there would be a distraction from learning while searches would take place. In addition, things can get misplaced in these searches. It would be in the best interests of students if this policy would not be approved.

     Privacy is very necessary and valuable. Almost half of the students in this school keeps their personal belongings in book bags and lockers. If these searches would take place, the people searching would see some personal belongings, belongings they shouldn't be seeing. Personal items can be anything and you never know when someone may look or read through it. Later, they might tell someone and soon, the privacy wouldn't remain any longer. However, opponents would say kids shouldn't bring personal and private belongings to school in the first place. This is wrong since some belongings are needed right after school. Privacy is one of the most needed things of all. 

     While students would be learning in class, the searches would continue. Those students who can see the searches going on would get easily distracted. They won't be able to focus and concentrate since their would be focusing outside, specifically on the searches. Most of the students would be looking at the people searching because they would want to see if anything suspicious or a weapon/drug would actually be found. Over 90% of students get distracted when something different occurs. These students would NOT get a proper day of learning if they wouldn't be focusing. Not focusing for the day may result into getting a bad grade for the day. Opponents would say just don't get distracted but this is an incorrect answer. Being distracted is something you can't stop, therefore, the distraction would stop when the searches would stop. Clearly, with random searches kids would get distracted which would lead to other bad stuff.

     When things get misplaced, it's a huge problem. While the searches are being held, one of a student's important belongings could be put in a different area than usual.  This way, when the subject comes in which you "lost" your book, you would freak. The book would be misplaced but according to you, it'd be lost. Depending on how mean the teacher is, she/he might even give you a 0 for the day because for being unprepared. Opponents would say carry all of the important belongings with you. This is a wrong statement. How can we carry all of our books and binders with us to every period? We'd have too much to carry. If something  gets misplaced, there would be many problems and consequences.

     The policy to allow random locker searches is wrong. No one would want to lose privacy, be distracted and have books misplaced. It is evident that having random searches would never be one of of the best choices to choose from.

School Uniforms

Dear Superintendent O’Malley,

          “When we lose the right to be different, we lose the privilege to be free.”(Charles Evans Hughes) If we all have the same, boring uniforms, nobody will be different. However, all of us will need to compromise whether we are against or for. Those who are against, like me won’t be able to do anything about it therefore, they aren’t free. Boards of Educations through out the world are requiring school uniforms for students for grades K-12 day by day. Now the Edison Board District is slowly following them. It won’t be correct to punish students who wear their clothes appropriately. It would be unfair to wear specific clothes given and if not wore, the student wouldn’t be able to participate in school that day. 23% of most schools require uniforms. It would be the best choice to avoid uniforms due to the cost, uncomfortableness and losing the opportunity of showing personality and style by clothes.

          With uniforms, the cost would be way to costly and expensive and over the budget of most families. Others would say it is better with uniforms since students only need two or three pairs of uniforms and six-ten pairs of home clothes, the clothes we wear now. This is incorrect because parents have to buy the uniforms and more than six-ten pairs of home clothes. Even at home more than six-ten pairs of clothes would be needed because kids still want to show their style outside of school grounds. Just because not in school, doesn’t mean not outside of school. Uniforms can cost till $100 per pair, that’s expensive. Even less money is spent on seven-ten pairs of clothes right now. Most families can’t afford to pay the two or three uniforms and on top of that, a lot of after school clothes. Therefore, the parents would have to find a way to get more money, such as a loan. It is evident that it is expensive when school uniforms and home clothes are purchased.

          Most students agree on the fact that school uniforms are uncomfortable at times. In fact, most girls wear skirts and t-shirts as their uniform. When sports day arrives or having to run, it is embarrassing and uncomfortable to the girls. Imagine girls, you wearing a skirt on sports day, wouldn’t it be mortifying and uncomfortable while running? Also, most of the uniforms, both girls and boys require a tie to be wore. A tie is itch, especially on my neck. Others would say it is an iota amount of people who think it is uncomfortable, so let it off the hook. They are wrong because they still have a discomfort with uniforms. While the teacher would be teaching, those kids would be too busy being uncomfortable that they won’t pay close attention. School uniforms are uncomfortable to people and that can also be a distraction.

          The opportunity to show style and personality will be taken away with uniforms. With uniforms, people can actually tell what kind of person someone is. For example, when someone wears neat clothes, everyone can tell they belong to a respectable family and when someone wears gang clothes, everyone can tell he/she is irresponsible. So, with uniforms everybody would look the same therefore, nobody can judge what kind of a person someone is. Others would say with uniforms there would be less attention to clothes and more attention to learning. This is wrong because clothes identify the true you. Your uniqueness and individuality, which are also very significant, can be two of the things your clothes show of you.

          Punishing innocent students wouldn’t be correct and fair since they wear their outfits appropriately. The Edison Township schools don’t need an expensive and costly coat of clothing, a piece of clothing that is uncomfortable, and pairs of uniforms that make showing personality impossible. The decision has to be taken quickly or this issue could get worse. It is evident that having uniforms would have many consequences attached to it, so no school uniforms.

Fizz, Coka Cola! “The Refreshing Feeling in One Sip.” Coka Cola has been a hit since it came out in markets and vending machines. Even celebrities love it. Coka Cola is a carbonated soft drink sold in over 200 countries. That’s a lot of countries! Anyways, did you know Coka Cola is not only used for drinking? You can use Coka Cola to get rid of your pain and stress, to take away bad odors, to remove stains and much more. It is really helpful that Coka Cola can help us with everyday items as well as for drinking. Many consumers love Coka Cola and now we want even more consumers to. To reach that goal, you should air our commercial on your tv station, you won’t get a better opportunity.

Coka Cola gets a lot of attention with that comes consumers. You can tell that by how many cans are sold each day. Infact, Coka Cola is the #1 soft drink ever made. You'll be surprised by how many cans are sold each day. Over one billion cans of Coka Cola are sold each day. This means over thirty-one billion cans are sold per month. In addition, 91% of the people out there in the world enjoy Coka Cola. You can see Coka Cola really does get a lot of attention along with consumers.

          When you get one can of Coka Cola, it helps others. Not only are you helping us by buying our product but you are helping other people as well. When you get Coka Cola, 10% of the money collected by you and others goes to the needy in charity. That's not it though. Even 15% of the money we collect by consumers goes to the hospitals. The money sent to hospitals can pay a quarter or so for a person's treatment. Also, we donate 5% of the money to school foundations. All of this money can help others so much; charity, hospitals and school foundations.

Coka Cola comes in a variety of sizes and flavors which appeals to everyone. No one just wants one or two flavors or one size of the brand they have. Customers want options. Coka Cola has nine flavors and three sizes. Coka Cola comes in the sizes of small, medium and large. Small are cans, medium are bottles and large are 24 oz bottles.  

The flavors are cola orange, cola lemon lime, cola cherry, cola lime, cola raspberry, cola vanilla, coka cola (regular), cola green tea and cola lemon. Overall, you can see that Coka Cola has a variety of delicious flavors and different sizes to choose from.

         Some people say Coka Cola is unhealthy but the truth is Coka Cola healthier oppose to other brands. Coka Cola is only ninety calories. Ninety calories is really significantly less than other soft drinks. Other brands have over 100 calories in them. Also, Coka Cola is caffeine free. The Coka Cola company workers are also putting even more nutrients, vitamins and other beneficial ingredients in the coke. It is evident that Coka Cola is a healthy and delicious energy drink.

         It isn't just for drinking but it is used in multiple helpful ways. Everyone needs a drink that gets a lot of attention with consumers, a drink that can help others and a drink with a variety of sizes and flavors which appeals to everyone. The needs for these statements would tell you that you want Coka Cola. More and more people will buy our product if we persuade them positively and fulfilling their needs. The better and successfull company is always the company that works their best. Get Coka Cola, your perfect match and your best friend!

Reflction of Commercial

      I think my commercial was good but I know I could have done way better. I liked my piece becasue I had creative ideas,  many facts and details about Coka Cola and it is convincing. I feel I was good at putting the whole script together, persuading consumers and memorizing my lines. Some areas where I could have improved in my commercial would be when talking infront of the camera, not laughing while shooting and memorizing my lines. Next time I do a commercial (probably never), I will try to act more proffesional and have more people. My goals for next time I write are to not laugh during random parts of the commercial and to try to make the commercial humerous and funny. I learned I am good at memorizing lines while shooting this commercial. Overall, I feel I did a good job on my commercial but I know that there will always be improvement needed.

Coka Cola

I am advertising Coka Cola and I would love it if your tv station put our commercial on t.v. First of all, I am sure if you put our Coka Cola commercial on t.v., the company will be getting a lot of customers and buyers. This will help the company a lot. Coka Cola only has 90 calories, believe it or not! This claim especially, will get a lot of customers because other soda brands have over 100 calories in them. Also, Coka Cola has a great and astonishing taste to it. A one sip of Coka Cola can make you so energetic and energized that even if you came back from something that made you really tired, Coka Cola will do the work! There are many other coca cola commercials but I am sure that this commercial will persuade even more consumers to buy Coka Cola. Saying yes to this offer, will bring both of our companies a lot of publicity. Please say yes to this offer and after you watch our commercial, I am sure you will say yes!!!!

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Commercial

Out of many commercials, my favorite and best one was the commercial for cinnamon toast crunch. In this commercial,  there are two cinnamon toast crunch's and one's mouth gets watery so he licks the other cinnamon toast crunch. Then he licked it one more time. It was about to lick it again since he could not resiste the addicting taste to it but as he stuck his tounge out, the cinnamon toast crunch that had been licked by twice ate the cinnamon toast crunch that was about to lick it the third time. This was persuading because two cinnamon toast crunch pieces are so good that one starts licking another and one eats another. This was also a funny ad. I love cinnamon toast crunch and I am sure that anyone else who watches it will be persuaded by!!!!!

College and Career Unit

We have been doing our college and career unit for the past month or so. It was a really fun and enjoyable topic. We culminated this topic now and we are doing interviews with Mr.Figureoa now. During this unit, we had to do papers such as a resume, letter of recomendation, college essay, job interview questions, and many other worksheets. When choosing a college, I learned that you need to be positive and make sure that the college you are picking is good for you. You can't just pick a college with a good campus but horrible classes or extracurricular classes that seem boring to you. There are miscellaneous kinds of collges and you need to pick one with a good campus, good classes, and good students. For the career unit section, I learned a variety of things. I learned that you must be prepared for your interview by knowing where to go, dressing properly, and having all papers ready. Bring an extra resume incase anything happens. At the interview, be friendly and nice and make sure to give a nice handshake. Know the name of the person interviewing you. Know the job responsibilities and what you need to know how to do in that job. Make the person interviewing you make you an employer by saying positive things about yourself and past. Never be late for an interview cause thats a huge mistake and it will be a big impression on you for the job. Last but not least, remember to write a thank-you note to the person who interviewed you whether you got the job or not. All in all, the college and career unit was the most fun thing I did this year and I learned many new things!!!!!!!!

College Essay

     I have admired many intresting characters that I have read in books. The character I look up to though is Karen from the novel "It's Not The End of The World." Karen is brave, strong, positive, and she believes in herself. She supports her family in many ways. Karen's parents have been divorced and Karen is still brave and strong. Her teacher at school Mrs.Singer doesn't like her, as to Karen. She got bad grades like D's but after all that, she is still strong and ready for action. She always tries to forget about negative thoughts and bring positive thoughts in her head. For example, when her parents got divorced and she just figured it out, she started to get upset but later on, she tried to think about positive things. She believed in herself for trying to bring her parents back together and forget about the divorce. She knew she was doing the right thing and she wouldn't stop till she got her parents' back together in one home as a happy family. Even though at the end of the book she didn't get her parents back together, she still knew she had tried her best level to accomplish her goal but couldn't. For example, just look at the title, it sounds like a positive title. Karen is strong even though many sullen things had happened to her, she knows it is not the end of the world.  I want to be like Karen when I grow up, I want to be strong, positive, and a believer. I know I will accomplish my goals then. Karen is the person I will always admire.

Technology

     Technology has helped many people in many ways. You use technology to help you write essays, do your homework, or even when you're  just kind of bored. When you use your computers, t.v, phones, or ipods/ipads, you are using technology. With technology, everything goes faster since you can find the information right on the computer or something else.
      Technology is really important. Some people might say that they can't live without technology but back then, guess what? There was not any technology and the people had many difficulties in life then. For getting just one answer, they had to get a book and look it up. It would take so much time compared to now. Anyways, now if you want to look at the weather, go to weather.com or you can just see it on t.v. For any other information, all you have to do is just go to Google and search the topic up. Then, all the answers just pop up and click on any of them. Do you see how easy it is with technology? Technology is really important and without technology, life would not be as great as it is! Technology is everything.  

Welcome To Our Class Ms. Carrol l!!!!!!!!

     Hi! My name is Shiksha Kohli and I'm twelve years old. I came from Lincoln School where I was a Lincoln lion. Some kind of activities that I find fun are drawing and going on the internet. I like drawing since I can draw whatever I feel like. I like going on the internet because when I get bored, I like to play games on the computer. I really love to switch classes and not stay with only one teacher throughout the whole entire day in middle school. We couldn't do this in elementary school. English is one of my favorite classes! I like to write because I can express my feelings when I write an essay. What I don't like about writing is when I have no idea what to write about in my essays. My mind goes blank and I don't have enough time. I am really looking forward to meet you  Ms. Carroll!

     Mrs. Patalano's class is really fun! When we go to her class, we always do a grammar worksheet and the end of the week, we have a grammar quiz on all the vocab words we had on our worksheets. Sometimes, we have tests on vocab words that are not from the worksheets and before the day of that test, we play a game about the vocab words and the winning team gets +5 points on their test. My group won once! I find this activity fun as well as what we are doing now, career unit. I don't like to use the laptops because they are so slow and once, by the time my laptop came to internet explorer, the period was over. All that time went to waste for me. Career Goals

It is never too early to think about your future life such as your occupation/job. You can always change your decision but so far mine has always been to become a software designer. Ever since I was little, I always wanted to be a leader and role model, someone that people could look up to. I didn't want to chose at that early time because I knew I had many more years but guess what, time flies so I want to decide now and I chose software designer. I also couldn't choose at that time because I wanted to come up of a correct job and I needed to choose the right job for my future. I've always wanted to explore new things on my computer and find new things. Whenever I went on my computer, I used to always pretend like I was some kind of proffesional at typing and using the computer. I never knew exactly what I wanted to be. Later, I thought about being a doctor but being a doctor isn't easy for me. I hate seeing blood and injured people. I feel really bad for them and can't even look at really injured people. How would I manage to become a doctor then? This is why I am now going with being a software designer. I think I will really enjoy this job if I stick to this goal and I am sure I will!

New Year Resolution

     The start of a new year is the time to come up of new resolutions to improve my life. This year, my main resolution is to finish my homeworkon time and immediatly when I reach home. Because I ofen wait till 4:00 to start, I usually do not get to finish my homework until 6:30 or 7:00 at night. inishing so late often leads me to having no fun. To accomplish my resolution, I will start my hmework before 4:00. I will also not as amny breaks as now, which is a lot. I will pick up the pace of my work as well not that much that I get the answers wrong nd be careless. This resolution will ensure that I have a more productive and less stressful homework experience as well as a happy new year!
