Reflecting On Ralph Fletcher's Writing

In English, we are reading five experts of Marshfield Dreams: When I was a Kid by Ralph Fletcher. One thing that was good in each story was they weren't very long so the reader wouldn't get bored. Also, I liked how Ralph Fletcher had many details and different sentences I have never heard before.
In his vignette "First Pen" he states " What words were hidden-unborn, unwritten- in all that unused ink?"( Fletcher, 2005, pg.44) It was really different than other sentences. For example, other authors would just write," What words were not written from this pen." This sentence is boring but the sentence Ralph Fletcher wrote was odd!
In his vignette " Last Kiss" he states " Even though I was confused, one thing seemed clear- my father and I had drifted away from each other in a small but important way, a way that I couldn't explain, not even to myself."( Fletcher, 2005, pg.84) This sentence is really emotinal. Can you imagine a boy who thinks his father and him are drifting away fom each other? This sentence was suppose to make the reader feel sorry-emotinal for the boy.
As you can see, Ralph Fletcher is a really interesting and unusual author. I would really love to read more of his awsome stories!

  1. Nice job, Shiksha. I was very impressed with what you said about the first pen sentence.i love the fact that when you write you give examples about how good Ralph fletcher wrote the sentence then what other authors wrote. One way you could improve your writing is my not starting every para. with the same thing. overrall good work.
